Can I place metal strip under vinyl siding to prevent mold growth on the side of the house?

Matthew L asked:

In this neighborhood we always get mold, green buildup, on the North side of the houses. I saw on an episode of This Old House they placed a metal strip on a roof to prevent moss buildup. Would this work on vinyl siding?

    1. Breath on the Wind Says:

Mold needs 4 things to grow: water, lack of sunlight, lack of ventilation, food. Eliminate any one and you will have no mold.

Your best options are ventilation and “food.” Don’t put bushes next to the north side of the house and keep it clean. The metal strip probably helps to keep; it dry.
