Cost of re-siding house with cedar siding?

We are looking at buying a 1500 sq ft house. It could use a re-siding. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to have someone do it. 5-10-15 thousand?

cedar siding is very expensive. why dont u go with regular siding? Or, have the house power washed?

your probably looking at spending about 5,000.00 usd.

      I’D HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST THIS!

My parents have a winter cabin w/ cedar siding.

While it is nice to look at, it is a continual maintenance issue.

They have to pay every year for people to paint it w/ water sealant w/ cedar tint, in order to keep it from rotting & becoming discolored.

They also have to have the house sprayed monthly by an insect company in order to prevent termites, bark beatles, etc from making it their new home.

In my opinion, it’s more trouble than it is worth.
I’d recommend Siding from Sears, which doesn’t have to be painted, doesn’t attract insects, doesn’t break, can be easily sprayed with a water hose clean & lasts for years.

You could have the entire house resided with vinyl, in any one of a dozen different designs for about a quarter of what it would cost to do it in cedar. Besides the cost, the maintainance issues are myriad.

Even though this may look nice maintenance on a wood sided house is a nightmare. Go with some vinyl siding or consider the new stuff that looks like logs but is manufactured plastic and wood composite check out Home Depot.

Cedar siding I would estimate15-20 thousand.

cost will depend greatly on where you live. first you need to figure out how many squares of siding you will need. measure width times height of all areas to be sided. divide by 100 and that’s how many squares of siding you need. 1500 square feet of floor space won’t tell you how much siding you will need. if looking at decent quality vinyl siding, figure 400 - 600 per square installed if in the north east U.S. this is for walls only, it will be extra for overhangs and trim. if you do decide to go with vinyl, don’t go cheap or you will be re-doing it in a few years. for real cedar siding plan on twice that then you will need to stain/paint after installation and have regular maintenance. one nice thing about cedar is that if what is currently on the house is real cedar you should be able to just replace the bad areas then re-paint the house. will still require regular maintenance though. best guess, if ranch style house approx 50ft wide X 30ft deep with 8ft heigh walls is 1280 sq ft divided by 100 = 13 squares X 500 = 6500.
