How do I match new stained cedar siding to existing stained cedar siding?

I will be “lacing” it in with the existing so the seams do not look odd, but the color thing is were I have trouble. I had planned on using a deck cleaner to clean the existing siding. After that I thought that if I stain the new part (12′X9′) and then stain everything, old and new, it might blend in decently. Is this a bad idea? I have not had any luck asking around the big home improvement stores and my local siding companies only install the product and will not do any staining.
