jb_drz asked: I need to have my deteriorated fiberboard siding replaced - but my existing soffit and fascia is newly painted and is in fine shape. My contractor says that new siding without new soffit & fascia will not look good.
Will installing new vinyl siding without installing new soffit, fasica and window wrap look and perform ok?

Julia asked: My house (right now) has a red brick partial front and white aluminum siding. I am looking to re-side with vinyl and need suggestions on a color. I am trying to avoid white again because most of the houses on the street are white and I’d like a little individuality. Help please!

Gerald R asked: I have two cedar sided bay windows which has several outside angled butt joints. I am having difficulty filling the gaps that have developed where the cedar boards meet. Last year I used OSI Professional Quad caulk and it failed to do the job. It is so thick that it is difficult to get the product very far into the joints. Over the seasons the expansion and contraction of the wood causes the caulk to split and a new gap appears. My aluminum windows are caulked to the cedar with an apparent rubber based caulk and they hold up fine even after 17 years. I am considering going to a similar product but need advice as to manufacturer. Help.

New Homeowner asked: My wife and I just purchased a 16 year old house late 2006. The previous owner was the only owner and right after he bought the house in 1990 he had vinyl siding installed over the cedar wood siding (with foam insulation in between). My wife and I would like to restore the house back to it’s wood siding configuration, however, we are concerned about the condition of the wood siding. If it was new when the vinyl siding was put on, is it safe to assume it will still be in great condition after we take the vinyl siding off? We live in Western Washington, where there is a lot of moisture, so we are worried that some how, some moisture may have been trapped between the vinyl siding and the wood siding, potentially causng rotting problems. I also heard that because moisture from inside the house travels through the walls to outside, it may get trapped in the original wood siding due to the foam and vinyl siding acting as a barrier for its escape. Anyone have experience with this?

H P asked: I am having confusion for choosing vinyl siding. Many contractors suggest to put a small foam bord in place of insulation, after they wrap the wall with tywek. The vinyl siding manufactorors’ websites boasts about the insulated vinyl sidings on their energy savings. The cost is a big factor if I choose to use the insulated vinyl sidings. I compared heart-land, alside, crane, and polar - wall. Any guidence will be useful.

apothegm1066 asked: I have a garage with perfectly good vinyl siding, except the color is really ugly. I asked the guy at the paint store if it was possible to paint vinyl, and he just looked at me like I was an idiot and said something like “Why would you do that?”
My question… can you paint vinyl siding? Do you need to prime it first? Do you have to use a special paint?
