We just bought a house with vinyl siding that’s in perfect condition, but we hate the color. Can vinyl siding be refinished to change the color? Thanks!!!

A question or two for “gassy” folks.vent free gas log vs. vented?

After a long miserable wait, I’m nearly ready to install my gas fireplace. I will be having a pro do the work, but I want to have a bit of knowledge so I’ll know whether some salesman is blowing smoke up my rear. I am in the US in a state that allows the use of Vent-free. I’m told other states and Canada do not.

1. I know a vent-free is more efficient and produces more heat, but is it safe to use as a heat source? I have friends who say their oil furnace never kicks on b/c the gas log heats the whole place.

2. Do you get substantial heat from a vented log?

3. I have a great looking firebox for a vented log. The kind that has glass on two sides and can be intalled in the wall and actually have the fireplace in two rooms…if I go with the vent-free logs, can I use this wonderful firebox which I got at a heckuva deal?

4. Is it possible for the firebox to be jacketed and the resulting heat be directed throught the ductwork with a blower?

Carl
