Painting Vinyl Siding, How much does it cost to have a professional do it?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
jxp65 asked:

My house is a standard 2-story. I believe our interior liveable square footage is around 2400 sq ft. We have vinyl siding but would like to change the color from cream to white. Just wondering how much a professional would charge to do this project, or if this is something I could do myself. Would I have to brush it on or could I use a sprayer?

Laminate Flooring Vs. Vinyl Flooring: Which is Best for your Needs?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
My Dream Home Registry asked:

If you are looking at remodeling your kitchen, deciding what type and style of flooring to go with can be just as important as what type of kitchen cabinets to install and what brand and style of appliances to select for the room, if not slightly more so. Without a nice floor, your kitchen will fast lose its appeal and it should be a nice, pleasant place for people to go and be able to have a meal. Many people even go to the kitchen to talk and socialize, so it is important that you get the right floor covering for your needs and you are as pleased with your kitchen as you can possibly be. After awhile, kitchen flooring is semi-permanent, and whatever you pick you are probably going to have to stick with.

After figuring what your budget is, it is much easier to have some idea of what type of flooring you will realistically be able to afford, especially with all other expenses considered including materials and installation. Many times, laminate and vinyl flooring come up as the most cost effective option, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. While many people may wish they could have their real bamboo or cherry wood flooring, or perhaps that marble floor that you have always dreamed of, it is not often affordable.

Of the two choices, laminate flooring is definitely the least expensive but vinyl flooring is also an affordable option. Laminate flooring is great for many people because it is a cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive flooring options, like expensive wood or marble. Laminate flooring can be made to look just like the other type of flooring that you may have wanted but was unable to afford, but obviously of a lesser quality.

While it is not necessarily the same thing, laminate flooring does have its own advantages. For example:

? Laminate flooring can give you the look of real bamboo, marble, or wooden flooring.

? Laminate flooring is easy to clean. You don’t have to have any expensive polishes or oils to clean your floor, just a wet mop and some cleaning supplies and you are ready to go.

? Laminate flooring is very durable and long-lasting, if you take care of it properly and it is installed correctly.

? Laminate flooring comes at a relatively low cost compared to other types of flooring, so if you are on a budget and want quality that is the perfect thing for you.

While laminate flooring is a great option, people are also deciding to go after vinyl flooring options as well. Vinyl is one of the most popular types of flooring out there as well. There are many reasons why, but the main ones have to do with the fact that not only is vinyl durable, but it is rather comfortable as well, as far as non-carpet flooring options go.

While it is not necessarily one of those things that everybody wants to have to settle for, vinyl is a lovely option for kitchen floor covering and like laminate flooring, it has its own set of advantages. For example:

? Vinyl is available in large sheets or in tiles, so however you feel like dealing with your installation is up to you. Whether you want the tiled look or not, vinyl has got you covered.

? Vinyl comes in many different colors and patterns, which makes it perfect for typing your kitchen floor up with a certain type of décor if you want to. This is something that other flooring options do not afford you.

? Vinyl comes in self-adhesive form or you can purchase the flooring adhesive for the vinyl flooring. Either way, installation is much easier.

Whatever option you choose, both laminate flooring and vinyl flooring are excellent options for any kitchen makeover project or just for a simple change to one of your most well-used rooms. Your kitchen is important; it is the place that meals are prepared and maybe even a place where friends and family congregate, so it is important that you are pleased with your decision on flooring options. Whichever option you choose, vinyl or laminate, you have a variety of decorating options open to you.

How to Purchase Vinyl Decals

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009
Jamie Quint asked:

Custom Vinyl Decals have long been an admirable way to personalize automobiles, trucks, boat, bicycles, and even trailers. From magnetic car signs, custom wall lettering, boat registration numbers, and even personalized graphic illustrations, you can either design your signage, or have a team of expert designers do it for you, and print your custom vinyl decal according to your needs.

On the Internet, by using popular search engines such as ‘Google and ‘Yahoo!’ you should come across vast listings of companies providing Custom Vinyl Decal Creations and Printing services. Vinyl Decals are effective solution to give your vehicle or boat a unique identity and an appealing makeover. Custom vinyl decals are also a great way to advertise your business. Custom Vinyl Lettering can be ordered to fit your specific vehicle.

Below are some of the factors you should consider before choosing a Vinyl Decals company:

• A good custom vinyl decals company should be able to provide a large variety of products and should welcome tailored orders. They should house everything from automobile decals, bumper stickers, rear window & windshield decals and also custom wall graphics. From design to print, the company should keep you up-to-date with all the progress they make, and ensure perfect fit and optimum quality when delivering your custom vinyl decal.

• Punctuality and reliability is a must. Make sure the company you are choosing for your custom vinyl decal provides fast on-demand design and printing at reasonable prices. On the average, custom vinyl decal companies deliver the tailored products to the customers within 3 working days after acceptance of the final proof. In the case of larger orders, the company should be willing to specify an approximate delivery date and should work with you to accommodate your special needs and keep you in sync with the whole process.

• Ensure that the company you are going with for your custom vinyl decals has a good reputation and is keen on providing guarantee custom decals and vinyl. Nowadays, there are numerous newbie companies entering the vinyl decals business, and not all provide good quality products. Although the life span of custom vinyl decals maybe hampered and shortened by bad weather conditions, you should be entitled to receive at least a limited one-year warranty against fading, peeling, or failure.

• If you are planning to design your own custom vinyl decal, go with a company which provides an easy user friendly interface in their software so that you can easily sketch up a sample. You can further enhance your design with the help of the expertise designers available, who should be keen on helping you by producing the final design. You should also be able to upload or import your own images and illustrations to their software or design computer.

• Installation of Vinyl decals can sometime be a hassle. Try to find a company who would either install the vinyl decal for you, or supply you with necessary additional products such as adhesive, covers etc. and step by step installation guide, so that you can easily install your own Custom Vinyl Decal.

Choose wisely….

Best of Luck!

I’m painting brand new hardiPlank fiber-cement siding. How long after a good rain, should I wait to avoid painting over and trapping moisture in the siding? If I got good sun all morning, could I start around noon? Or does it take a few days of good sun todry it out?

Thanks in advance!

Design Tips For Large Vinyl Banners

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Natasha William asked:

Commonly speaking, a vinyl banner is simple to design. Any person having a small experience of graphic design can easily design a vinyl banner. And yet if you have no experience, your dealer can direct you on the right way, or even design your banner on a little charge.

Here are several things to look at when designing a vinyl banner…

1. Use software that holds CMYK full color production. There are three types of software you can utilize:

- Page Layout programs like Pagemaker, InDesign, or Quarkxpress

- Image editors like PhotoPaint, PhotoImpact, or Photoshop

- Illustration programs like CorelDraw

Commonly speaking, programs that are use for general office applications or consumers are not recommended: like Publisher, Wordperfect, Word, Excel, etc. If you have an exact inquiry, don’t pause to inquire your vinyl banners provider.

2. Ensure your vinyl banner fits the part where you are heading for mount it. Do not presume at the size. Most people who are not well-known with signage will miscalculate the required size.

3. Use brilliant colors. The most outstanding vinyl banners have plenty of brilliant colors.

4. Make sure your images have enough resolution. For some recommendation on image resolution, see the Vinyl Banners FAQ.

5. Design your vinyl banner in such way that it is easily understandable for your target audience. If it is going beside a road on or a fence on a building, ensure that your most important message is large enough to be understand.

6. Think substitute ways of mounting your vinyl banner. Grommet is the default process of mounting a banner on a fence or wall.

7. Keep your design plain and prominent. The top designs have two or three essential elements. Usually these will be an “identifier” such as your company name, logo, or phone number, a large headline, and a photograph.

No Nonsense Places to Advertise With Your Vinyl Signs

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Joel Owens asked:

Vinyl signs and banners are often underappreciated but very effective marketing materials. Signs made with this kind of material provide you with very graphic displays that help to promote your business or product.

When using vinyl, you must keep in mind that you are dealing with a very versatile material. It is flexible which means that is can serve or fulfill a variety of demands. How you wield this print is truly, entirely up to you. But for everything else, remember that another key factor to using vinyl prints is not just what is printed on it, but where you place it.

Here are some suggestions on where or how you can place them and attract the public’s eyes:

1. On billboards as large format posters. Vinyl allows for printing of very vivid pictures that can be appreciated even at very long distances. This kind of wide exposure and visibility makes large format signs and banners a definite must so as to increase your target audience.

The difference in picture quality and color will make your banner edge out the usual display signs and advertisements that can be seen on the billboards.

2. On places where there are very high steps or footfalls. When people are going up or going down through a staircase, they will almost certainly look at the direction where they are heading to. When they are going up they look up. When they are going down, they look down.

Take advantage of this no-nonsense fact by putting your vinyl signs or banners on places that are adjacent to the stairs. Now, people have no choice but to look at your sign every time they go up or down those stairs.

3. Hang them on poles. Think of flags in a flagpole. Use signs with both sides printed on to for better effect. Vinyl banners are very resilient to wear and tear. It is protected against ultraviolet radiation and generally will not easily tear apart even after exposure to sunlight and radiation.

Vinyl is also water resistant so even if it rains, you can be sure that your banner can easily repel water. It is also generally fade resistant allowing for a very long life even after going against the elements.

Poles are very effective because they can reach audiences that are both near and far. Banners can be stretched and hung across large areas such as stadiums, courts and so on. And with pole stitching, you can even hang them overhead. Hang banners is large open or closed areas such as auditoriums and so on.

4. Attach them on glass windows. Stickers are not the only ones that can be used on glass windows. Vinyl banners can also be attached on glass windows using vinyl adhesives. Position it well and it would serve as both an advertisement and decoration in one.

With an adhesive vinyl, you can decorate the window both inside and out. Vinyl adhesives come in either opaque or clear stocks. People will surely be surprised and interested when they see your glass window banner on both sides.

5. Where people often queue up for lines. Places like department store cashiers come to mind here. The people here are waiting for their turn and are forced to stay put.

Place your signs near these places. Banner stands are great for open areas while mounting your vinyl banner can easily be set up on walls. This makes your audience captive and your vinyl signs one advertisement that is sure not to be missed.

Vinyl Signs: Finding Space for Large Ideas

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Abejuela Jennifer asked:

Why place your vinyl signs in a single location? Vinyl signs are your outdoor advertising materials that possess greater visibility or exposure to pedestrians, motorists and such clients.

Vinyl signs can be any material or large format print made out of vinyl. Thus, signage made from vinyl can be anywhere from banners, posters, adhesive back, and billboards. All of these are great advertisement materials but they are limited to one location.

Vinyl Signs, Advertising Strategies and Ideas

The weakness, however, lies in advertising to the same set of people who routinely pass that direction. But what about other possible target clientele? Can your billboards and poster reach every nook and cranny?

1. Vinyl Signs as Billboards

• You may want to put up a billboard in more strategic locations to focus more on your target demographic, but billboards can be very expensive. Printing one might be affordable, but the monthly expense of paying for the location can eat a big hole into your budget.

• Work out locations or establishments where you can arrange to post your billboards, pro bono or for certain privileges other than cash. Look into community billboards or local events and charity drives.

2. Vinyl Posters

• Printing vinyl posters is a good solution. They are very easy to put up and theoretically, they can be put up almost anywhere. However, before you proceed to printing out lots of posters check and consult with the local city official on regulations. There are designated public display areas set by different cities and states, councils and village organizations.

• There are a lot of high traffic areas that allows you to put up your posters for free. Look into such strategic locations and do not limit yourself to your own establishment. Look into sponsoring local activities or festivities where you can promote your business.

3. Adhesive Vinyl

• Vinyl signs are very flexible materials. They can be printed in several feet, sewn together and make billboards. They can also be turned into large format posters as discussed earlier. But other than this, vinyl can be easily placed and pasted unto different surfaces. Aside from store front windows, use adhesive back to cover your business transport vehicle to make your advertisement more mobile.

Vinyl Signs – The Advantages

• Vinyl signs have evolved and have been put to more uses. It is the material of choice for advertising in harsh outdoor conditions. Being made of synthetic material, it is long lasting and durable than say paper or cloth.

• Billboards and posters can even be printed in mesh vinyl banners where the wind can easily pass through small holes. The vinyl becomes more flexible to certain weather conditions and will withstand strong winds.

• Vinyl signs suggested earlier, can be placed in your business transport such as your delivery truck. If you deliver your goods, placing signs in your delivery trucks lets your customers and other people know that you do business in that area.

• There are other ways to use vinyl signs. Make a deal with taxi companies or bus transport groups, put up your vinyl banners on their cars or buses. Think bigger and why not trains as well?

Billboards and posters may have their weakness, but they are effective marketing materials. But as an entrepreneur, you must constantly find new ways to explore opportunities. With vinyl signs and large format printing, you can find spaces in hard to reach areas easily.
