How can I get rid of a yellow jacket nest under siding?

Sunday, October 30th, 2011
annie asked:

Yellow jackets have built a nest under the siding on my porch. Seriously, there’s tons of them. We had to stop using the front door. I looked it up and read there are some powders/aerosols to spray into the nest, but there’s a bunch of “guards” or whatever always sitting outside the entrance, and I don’t really want to get swarmed by them.
Does anyone know the best way to get rid of them, without getting stung to death?

How do I remove aluminum siding to insulate my home?

Thursday, October 27th, 2011
roadlessgraveled asked:

I want to remove the top strips and under the windows and blow insulation into the sidewalls. There are no firestops in the walls, so I shouldn’t have to take off more than the top and under the windows. How do I do this? The siding is 8″ wide.
This is a DIY forum, you know. Everything a DIY person does, at some point they had “never done it before”…and the way they learn to do it the first time is to learn how to do it. To say “if you don’t know how, you shouldn’t do it” is an absurd statement for a real DIY person. It doesn’t take years of experience to DIY, it mostly takes knowledge of the material and the tools needed, then the technique…which is the the purpose of this forum.
Harrummph….
And before you say “ehow.com”, check and see if there actually IS any useful information there.

How do you keep a woodpecker from pecking at your siding?

Monday, October 17th, 2011
sonofstar asked:

We have either a woodpecker or sapsucker that is insistent on pecking at the siding on our house. To the point that it’s putting in some good sized holes. We go out and shoo it away…only to have it return 5 mins later. Anyone have a clue how to get it to leave our house alone?
