The biggest problem you will have is trim, especially around windows and doors. It may be difficult to get that to look right, due to the extra thickness. Cedar being the price it is now, you may find someone willing to salvage your siding if you ask in the right place. I would expect at the very least you would find someone willing to take it off for the siding, may even find someone willing to pay you for it. If it is in good condition.
