I have cedar siding that was primed last year with an oil based primer?

Posted by admin
Ever M asked:

I want to paint it with a latex paint this year but have heard that if primer is not painted over within 2 weeks that it will not adhere paint correctly. Do I need to sand the old primer and reprime or can I just reprime?

You need to apply a super adhesive latex primer, It will stick to the old paint. then you can apply regular latex .

Just give it a light scuffing and lay the paint on.

You must re-prime this. The primer you put on, which is the best you can use has lost it’s function to allow new paint to adhere to. If you lightly sand the primer, your new paint will peel in a very short time. Re-prime with the same primer you already used. Sorry for the bad news

Reprime and paint soon after or dirt will prevent paint from adhering.
