cedar siding. But when getting an estimate aren’t they supposed to ask? or check it? The guy who gave me the estimate told me that you can put siding on top of the cedar siding which i think might be rotten underneath. is this one way for them to just do that job and get their money and let the whole thing rot and fall off?

I would doubt that you could have extensive areas of rot without being sure. You would have extensive water staining inside the house if that much water were getting in. You may have spots of rot at the bottom without interior signs though. Ask the contractors what they think, they don’t want to do a bad job.

well one thing cedar is a very sustainable wood that doesn’t rot very much that’s why they use it for siding and it depends onhow old the cedar siding in too and it depends on what they used to put it up with scews or nails or staples but you can go around and pull on the siding and see if there are any planks that pull away from the the house if they pull away or fill like there not attached then id get them back and tell them to fix it but i don’t think it should be a prob
