securing a small log i want to chainsaw?

i have an oddly shaped log. from its side, it shaped like an egg. its hollow on the inside. girth is maybe 8-9 inches. i want to cut it twice, makeing 3 seperate sections. … so, not lengthwize, but width?wize.

i guess im going to be using a chainsaw… ive never used one before. do i need to secure the wood like i would with something i’d cut with a handsaw? or can i just set it on the ground, levened on bricks, and just cut it… i dont think i should use a person to hold the log down.. so what do i do?

      Ah! I see you decided to give this a try. I not want to say, but, I just lay on the ground and cut about half way roll over and cut the other half. Let the log hit against the Saw Body to keep from rolling. This keep the Chain out of the dirt. The size you say it may try to roll if it not secure and the chain get a good bite. I have had a friend hold the very end to do this, but, as far as a safe way, I not know.

      try practicing on a large log to get the feel of working with a chainsaw. they’re extremely dangerous, and can be very temperamental. you may consider taking your small log to a local mill work shop and ask them if they could cut it on their band saw. much safer approach.
      as far as having a friend hold it while you attack it with a chainsaw, you’ll be less one friend, and he’ll be less several fingers. (or worse)

      block it off the ground… or roll it once cut 2/3.but chances are the cut wont align perfectly.let the rakers on the chainsaw rest against the log rock up and down let gravity cut the wood. ALWAYS STAND BESIDE THE SAW. GRIP THE SAW FIRMLY WITH YOUR LEFT FOREARM FULLY STRAIGHT EXTENDED ON TOP OF THE CRHAINSAW CROSSABAR IF YOUR RIGHTHANDED. USE EYE, EAR, GLOVES,FACESHIELD, AND LOGGERCHAPS if available. NEVER DIP THE TIP OF THE SAW INTO THE WOOD. START AGAINST THE RAKERS. BEWARE OF OTHERS AROUND YOU AND YOUR SURROUNDINGS. dont let saw blade EVER hit in the dirt .

      Before you even start to think about using a chainsaw, find someone that knows what they are doing to show you (perhaps someone at the saw shop). They use a mixture of oil and gas (not just straight gas) and any help you can get may save you a trip to the ER.
