Should I remove vinyl siding from my house?

Why would you want to remove the vinyl siding and give yourself more work to do? Forget everyone else and think just of yourself. Does the vinyl siding REALLY clash with the design style of your home?
If the vinyl siding is in good condition, it will last 20 years.
Wood siding will need to be painted every 3-5 years. The wood is subject to rot and insects.

Yes…….It is not what they say it is…….lazy man’s way out…take one section at a time……maybe the front first….and then put some stone(river rock or the new fake stone) 1/3 or1/2 the way up and side the rest in nice cedar siding w/ stain not paint. Stop and take a look……..then if your not happy take another end and just clean it up. Same with the back and other sides…….if you have a nice patio ……dress it up……..makes all the difference in the world. Just Stone on the front……and take some of the old siding off, so if you have something to repair, you have something to do it with ….Imo……….I love it…….that doesn’t mean you will….that was my living for years……soooooooooooo….nite.

maybe find a vinyl siding you like so not to reduce the worth of your home! The upkeep of wood siding is awful and costly!

Removing the vinyl is a DIY. Start at the top and it will practically fall off. Over time vinyl gets brittle so breaking the nail hems is very easy. Dealing with what is underneath is a whole other story. But could be just as good as bad. Experiment with some areas to see what is under. Zip tools will let you open up the siding w/o damaging it and see what is underneath in alot of different areas…

I have it on all four sides of my home and hate the stuff. It’s a cheap solution for the builders, that’s all. The ONLY benefit from it is not needing to paint. It has to be pressure cleaned for mildew removal. The homes where we moved from were built with concrete block and stucco so a good quality mildew resistant paint would be all you need for many many years, so we were not used to siding. However, we”ll be selling in about a year, and as a result, we ain’t touch-in it. They like it in this area!
We did get prices, to answer your question. Our 1900sf home would have cost 9-10 thousand to replace with brick.
