I think I would advise the vinyl although it cost us more than paint would have. It does have some draw backs. IT was really windy and got a lot of dust on one side of the house. We couldn't get it off even though we got professional help. I lived there ten or more years. It was white so we matched it well and replaced it. We had some old siding left for replacement. I don't think it is guaranteed against serious dents or spray paint. Decide what looks best. it is hard to say without seeing it. The vinly sounds good to me.

There are two things you need to understand when making this decision:

1) Vinyl siding is not forever siding. Warranties for even the best vinyl sidings to not say the siding will not fade, just that it will fade evenly.

2) A proper paint job (including proper preparation) does not create an ongoing maintenance issue. If you use a quality paint, the formulas in use now can last 20 years or more. It will fade a bit, but a new coat of paint is easier and less expensive than replacing vinyl.

It sounds like your siding is in fair condition. I would replace the siding that needs to be replaced, properly remove existing paint as needed and prime followed by two coats of a high quality latex paint.

1) Less expensive
2) Maintains the architectural integrity of the home
3) Easier to brighten up when it fades

Putting vinyl siding on a Tudor style house will ruin the "Tudor" look. I would stick with the style of the house and repair it. Many people enjoy the look of a Tudor style house so it can become a selling point.

The siding will be a one-time job and will increase the value of the house substantially when you sell. it's a good investment in your future sale.

People look at houses and see 'work' and 'updates needed' and they tend to ding you on the offer price because of that. Something to think about.

I think you should spring for the vinyl siding because we had it done on our house and it still looks great (just needs a hose down every now and then). I think that it would be easier to sell the house if it has vinyl because it emphasizes the low-maintenance, which most people look for in a house.
