Vinyl or steel siding?

Steel or vinyl siding?
I live in the Black Hills and I need to re-side my cottage. I like the look of vinyl. I’ve heard pros and cons about both steel and vinyl. Is steel really that easy to dent? It just doesn’t look as ‘clean’ as vinyl.
Also what 3 color combos do you like? My cottage has shutters.

Yes, steel is easy to dent, fades faster, harder to clean and just does not have the neatly finished look of vinyl. I speak from experience, we had steel at our old home where we lived for many years.

I have cream coloured aluminium siding with many dents from the car door being slammed against it. It also has scratches in the paint that have exposed the aluminium. Vinyl may crack and will scratch. Vinyl may not make the house interior as hot as the aluminium does during summer. Check the guarantees against each one, and also the price. You should get at least 25 years from both. I’d go with the cheaper if I could do it again. The colour combination kept basic will help with resale if you think that may happen eventually. Best of luck!

Steel siding dents and vinyl cracks. Check with your contractor. Light gray siding, dark blue shutters and a light blue door.
