What’s less expensive - vinyl siding or stucco?

Posted by admin
Deb G asked:

We are looking to replace the vinyl siding because ours looks terrible and is falling off. We are trying to decide between new siding and stucco. If we do the siding, it will probably be high quality - not the cheapo stuff. But we’re not sure which is a better value. We were quoted $14,000 to do the house with siding. This is a manufactured home that we are trying to make nicer.
Quickly, though… would it be better to put the garage on before redoing the outside, or after?
Thanks!

stucco is cheapo. my dad does it to the trailers he owns. it looks great but it messy to do and can crumble it somone kicks it enough. easy and cheap to pacth it. vinal siding is easy to instal but pricier. its just as durable i assume, i guess it would depend on the brand you buy i suppose.

i would go with the siding and yes you should put garage on first

Stucco is cheap cement and is easily repairable…..just splotch on more cheap cement. It is long lived and paints easily. I stuccoed my own house and never regretted it. But first, I learned how to do it from a reliable professional.

Initially stucco will be slightly cheaper than vinyl. However stucco will flake off and crack over time. Especially around windows and doors which will require constant maintenance not to mention repainting every few years. Vinyl will not crack and will move as the house settles. Also the only maintenance will be to power wash it a couple times a year. In the long run vinyl will be cheaper. As far as adding on the garage ideally you should do it before the siding. However if you have to wait make sure you purchase the vinyl siding for it now. That way when its time to side the siding will match once it oxidizes. Hope this helps

Vinyl siding should be cheaper.. If you have someone who knows what they are doing w/ the stucco, it will not flake off or fall off if it is kicked or hit.. you will get hairline cracks in it, but if it’s done the correct way, it will last a lifetime..
