will my house rot under vinyl siding?

my house needs to either be painted or sided, and i would rather side it, but a couple of old timers have told me that since i live in a very humid area, that moisture will get trapped between the vinyl siding and the wood siding and cause the house to rot undetectably. is this true?

This happens more times than not. But it is due to poor construction. If done properly, it is very effective in high humid places. I have a home with siding, but I did it myself to ensure it was done right.

Personally, I hate vinyl siding, it looks really cheap. I would either go with painting the house or dry-vit. Dry-vit is concrete swirled over the existing wall with Styrofoam and wire mesh under it. They can form post with it and it looks great and has a great insulation factor. It will really cut your utility’s down.
If the siding is installed properly, it should not allow the wood to rot.
